Readings in African American Literature, Beginnings through the Harlem Renaissance

Students will read and discuss a number of literary works by African American writers writing before 1940. Class sessions will normally be 90 minutes and readings will be selected from the Norton Anthology of African American Literature (third edition, vol. 1). In summer or fall of 2015, the second volume of the Norton third edition will be the source for readings of African American writers after the Harlem Renaissance.
