Course Description

This Excel course focuses on the fundamental concepts of how to create stunning and effective spreadsheets using Microsoft Office Database and Spreadsheet software. All of the basic terminology, concepts and techniques are learned as students create workbooks.  Understanding and practices coordinating these two powerful Microsoft applications will advance your productivity in the workforce. 

The WORD course focuses on  parts of the Microsoft Word window, including the ribbon and quick access toolbar. Participants will learn how to open a new blank document and templates to type a letter, resume, or paper.  Lessons also include: Navigating Microsoft Word to open a new or existing document in order to create a document for a specific purpose, editing text and page formatting in Microsoft Word in order to produce a professional looking document,  identifying the purpose of various parts of the Microsoft Word Window in order to complete a specific word processing task.

NorthStar:  Essential Software Skills – Microsoft Word 

Integrated with Northstar Online Learning (NSOL) resources, learners can access practice resources to build their digital literacy skills.

  1. Open a new or existing document.
  2. Identify the parts of the Word window, including the Ribbon, Status Bar and Quick Access Toolbar.
  3. Save a document, being intentional about name and location.
  4. Identify file extensions that can be opened by Microsoft Word.
  5. Use Spelling and Grammar check.
  6. Format text: size, color and font type.
  7. Set text spacing and alignment.
  8. Apply bullets and automatic numbering.
  9. Undo the previous action.
  10. Cut, copy and paste.

Certification available thru NorthStar in Microsoft Basics as a proctored assessment thru PASCEP
