Course Description

This course is an examination of a diverse expanse of African-centered literature across space and time. For each class, we will examine an excerpt from the assigned reading and analyze the text from an Afrocentric lens. Throughout the class, we will leap from one text to another to unravel themes, characters, symbols, etc. to discover how these concepts can be unpacked from an Afrocentric lens. Application will be an integral part of the course: what we learn will not be localized to the four walls of the classroom but will also be applicable to multiple realms of one’s life, and we will explore this applicability as we move through each piece of literature.
