Course Description

What does it mean to create a safe environment for the people we serve? In today’s world, trauma has affected almost everyone directly or indirectly. Often, these individuals are unintentionally re-victimized by well-meaning people. This course will help you to learn how to approach clients using a trauma-informed lens.

In this course, you are provided an overview of what trauma is, types of trauma, the long-lasting effects of trauma, and what it means to provide care through a trauma-informed lens and build resiliency. We will also explore what it means to have a trauma-informed practice and how to implement one.

You will learn how to identify various types of stress and stress responses, and how to manage different types of work stress. You will also learn about self-care that includes not only caring for yourself but protecting yourself and your client when entering a home on a home visit. You will look at ways to communicate that can help to de-escalate and manage conflicts to create a safe environment for both you and your client.

UPDATE: As of July 1, 2024, Temple University Harrisburg will be changing the 90 day deadline to 30 days.
