Course Description

Professionalism is the attributes, behaviors, commitments, values, and goals that characterize a profession. Ethical choices are a cornerstone of effective human services practice and require the careful systematic analysis of decisions and behaviors and implementation of those decisions.

This course explores the professional and ethical issues facing human services professionals. It is designed to increase awareness of the complexities in practice and introduce a process of ethical decision-making. Participants are introduced to the ethical standards for human services professionals that guide the professional practice of human services. Common ethical challenges, such as confidentiality, informed consent, and self-disclosure are emphasized. Participants will have the opportunity to develop and practice skills in ethical decision-making and take a more ethical approach to their work.

This course also considers professional standards of competence and growth by exploring concepts of lifelong learning, adult learning with opportunities for self-assessment in these areas, and others in the development of a professional development plan.

UPDATE: As of July 1, 2024, Temple University Harrisburg will be changing the 90 day deadline to 30 days. Based on the data collected and feedback from participants, we believe this is in the best interests of the participant to ensure the timely completion of the program. This change will go in effect for all current and future course enrollments starting on that date.
