Course Description

Registration on this site is required for all participants that wish to receive Social Work Continuing Education for the trainings in this series.

These trainings are private to AmeriHealth Caritas Staff.

 Each training topic and date has individual registration. To receive CE, participants must register for each training topic.

Certificates of attendance documenting continuing education hours or units will be issued by Temple University Harrisburg. 

These trainings have been approved for 3.5 Social Work Continuing Education hours. Temple University Harrisburg is a PA State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Professional Counselors preapproved provider of continuing education. These credit hours satisfy requirements for LSW/LCSW/LMFT/LPC biennial license renewal. 

If you are interested in receiving a certificate of continuing education, the following steps must be completed:

  1. Register for this course through this site.
  2. Complete the CE Request Form.
  3. Attend the entire training. 
  4. If attending by watching the training recording, a post-test will be required with a minimum of 80% correct.
  5. Complete an online program evaluation.

Children and Violence

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe First Step’s comprehensive services, programs, and populations served.
  2. Restate the objectives and purpose of First Step’s children’s program.
  3. Illustrate working knowledge of how intimate partner violence and sexual violence are defined and perpetrated.
  4. Interpret the impact of domestic and sexual violence exposure on children of all ages.
  5. Apply best trauma-informed practices when supporting and working with child survivors.
  6. Utilize safety planning strategies with child survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence, and their families.

 

Foundations of Domestic and Sexual Violence

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Develop working knowledge of how intimate partner violence and sexual assault is defined and perpetrated in both relationships and society
  2. Advance understanding of how to identify abuse, abusers, and barriers survivors face
  3. Deconstruct harmful and inaccurate myths associated with domestic and sexual violence, including why survivors may stay
  4. Develop tools and knowledge base, including resources, for safety planning with a survivor of domestic and/or sexual violence
  5. Utilize First Step's comprehensives services, programs, populations served, and explain how to refer individuals for services

Course Description:

In this training, Children and Violence, First Step experts will review the foundations of both domestic and sexual violence and discuss the variety of responses to and lasting impacts these violence’s can have on the different developmental stages. Additionally, attendees will learn about best practices for working with children who have experienced trauma, including lifesaving and emotionally supportive safety planning strategies. National referrals and resources, and more information on First Step's programs and services, will be provided. All attendees will receive a supplemental course packet with a wealth of resources and information to further their understanding on the topic of children and violence.

Course Description:

In this training course, Foundations of Domestic and Sexual Violence, First Step experts will define and review the dynamics of both domestic and sexual violence. Additional topics discussed throughout the training focus on identifying common traits in abusers, dispelling myths and highlighting facts about DV/SA, discussing vulnerabilities of victims, common barriers survivors face, and trauma responses including discussing the compelling reasons why survivors may stay or return to an abusive relationship. Additionally, participants will learn about best practices for working with survivors of domestic and sexual violence, including lifesaving and emotionally supportive safety planning strategies. National referrals and resources, and more information on First Step's programs and services, will be provided. All participants will receive a supplemental course packet with a plethora of resources and additional information to further their understanding domestic and sexual violence and working with survivors.
