Course Description

Pain can greatly impact quality of life. It is important to be able to understand how the body perceives pain and how pain can be relieved through various mechanisms. This course will cover how the body interprets pain and can modulate pain. The purpose behind different pain interventions will be discussed, as well as some common myths and misconceptions that exist regarding pain across different populations.

Learner Outcomes

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:  

  • Describe how the body perceives pain; 
  • Explain how different pain theories can be used to modulate an individual’s experience of pain; and 
  • Examine myths and misconceptions regarding pain. 

When participants return to the workplace, they will be able to:  

  • Assess how pain impacts individuals they are working with; 
  • Explain the benefits and limitations of different approaches for pain relief to individuals; and 
  • Advocate for clients regarding pain relief.
