Course Description
This course will outline the effectiveness of the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) in the medical setting and will highlight the Social Worker’s role on the team. The use of the IDT approach to patient care fosters good communication among team members, appropriate allocation of resources, and a collaboration among members, all of which can enhance patient health. In this course, the social worker will be able to identify the members of an IDT and describe their role, recognize important elements of an effective IDT, and assess the role of the social worker on an IDT. The social worker will be able to confidently integrate social work perspective and demonstrate effective communication strategies within the IDT.

Learner Outcomes
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Identify the members of an Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) and describe their respective roles;
- Recognize the impact of IDTs on patient care and well-being; and
- Assess the skills and knowledge social workers bring to IDTs.
When participants return to the workplace, they will be able to:
- Use effective communication strategies within IDTs; and
- Value the contributions of social workers within IDTs.
