Course Description

Social workers carry a unique skillset that is utilized across a myriad of medical settings. A medical social worker acknowledges the complexities of patients and the healthcare system and utilizes advocacy, discharge planning, and supportive therapeutic skills to ensure positive outcomes for patients and their families. This course will focus on the various roles of a social worker across medical settings, as well as the common skills utilized in the discharge planning process.

Learner Outcomes

When participants return to the workplace, they will be able to:  

  • Use advocacy and therapeutic skills in their work; and 
  • Compare and contrast the roles of social workers across medical settings.
