Course Description

This course meets the requirements of Pennsylvania’s Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting continuing education requirement for licensed social workers. Accordingly, it provides an overview of Pennsylvania’s Child Welfare System, definitions of child abuse, provisions and responsibilities for reporting child abuse, and indicators of child abuse. Mandated reporters from other professions are also invited and encouraged to attend the training.

Learner Outcomes

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:  

  • Compare and contrast criteria for reporting suspected child abuse to Child Protective Services and General Protective Services; 
  • Identify components of child abuse; and 
  • Identify their responsibilities as mandated reporters. 

When participants return to the workplace, they will be able to:  

  • Report suspected child abuse to appropriate agencies within required time frames; and 
  • Recognize signs of potential child abuse.
