Course Description

This course will use a multidisciplinary approach to explain how policy and politics are important forces that directly impact our social conditions. Oftentimes, we overlook or avoid the conversation about U.S. politics and how laws and policies create structural barriers to equity for population groups that lack power and privilege.

Learner Outcomes

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:  

  • Identify the components of the Political Determinants of Health; and 
  • Compare and contrast the Political Determinants and Social Determinants of Health. 

When participants return to the workplace, they will be able to:  

  • Create opportunities for political engagement with clients and coworkers; and 
  • Positively impact institutional policies to promote health of individuals and communities.
