PCHA0029 - Personal Care Home Online Administrator Orientation Program
Course Description
Before employment as an administrator, 55 Pa. Code § 2600.64(a) requires the following:
- Completion of the Department of Human Services, Bureau of Human Services Licensing (BHSL) orientation program.
- Completion of a Department-approved 100-hour standardized training course.
- A passing score on the Department-approved competency-based training test.
*The orientation program may be completed before, during, or after completion of the 100-hour course.
*This orientation program is for new administrators only. A current personal care home administrator may not attend the orientation and count the training hours towards the required annual training as required in § 2600.64(c).
Course Outline
Registration
- Registration is required for this training.
- Space is limited and is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
- All sessions are virtual. Successfully registered individuals will receive an emailed web link to join the session and additional information for accessing the training.
Learner Outcomes
Upon the completion of this orientation program, individuals will have learned about the following:
- Summarize the purpose and structure of the Bureau of Human Services Licensing (BHSL)
- Locate the Department of Human Services (DHS) website
- Describe the application process
- Locate regulations
- Reference the Regulatory Compliance Guide (RCG)
- Describe the types of Inspections and inspection process
- Recall required and sample model forms
- Arrange for completing the 100-Hour course and competency test

Recommendations
An administrator is only required to attend the orientation program one time. If an administrator has a break in employment for more than one year, BHSL strongly recommends attending the orientation program again as a refresher course.
