OLLI101296 - Civil Rights, Civil Wrongs
Course Description
CIVIL RIGHTS, CIVIL WRONGS
James Robertson
4-Week Course
Wednesdays, June 2-23, 1:00 PM-2:30 PM
The U.S. was settled by people looking for a better life. A cornerstone of this country is a benign belief in the rule of law. Years after the Civil War, the U.S. experienced numerous incidents whereby the image and ideal of the rule of law was suspended. This seminar will illustrate the times when civil rights were violated or suspended. The course will demonstrate times where the U.S. was not “touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.”

Notes
Why when I'm registering do I join the wait list?
Several of our courses are in high demand. In order to accommodate our members who are not tech-savvy and have trouble registering online-we created a registration system in which there is no advantage to registering early, no disadvantage to registering later. When you register, you join the wait list for the course. After the registration period is over, we run a lottery on the courses, and it randomly determines who is admitted to each course and who is not. You typically receive word about which courses you are admitted to, two weeks before the start of the semester.
When will I be notified which classes I have been admitted to?
We typically notify our members about which courses they are admitted to at least two weeks before the semester starts.
