Course Description

Note: More PDA Enrichment offerings will be available in the Fall.

 

This training is provided as an enrichment course for Older Adults Protective Service Workers and Adult Protective Service Workers. The course covers the fundamentals of addressing the needs of individuals who self-neglect through protective services.

  • Individual registration is required.
  • This training is only open to PDA Protective Services APS and OAPS staff.

 

In order to receive PDA Protective Services credit hours, participants must:  

  • Participate in the two day live virtual training facilitated by Chris Dubble. 
  • Video and audio are required to be on for the duration. 
  • Certificates will be issued upon successful completion.
  • Partial certificates for missing any portion are not available. 

 

Protective Services staff are required to attend six (6) hours of enrichment per calendar year

 

Course Outline

This Enrichment topic will be offered during Spring 2021. Each offering is split between two consecutive days, and attendance to both days is mandatory to receive credit. Participants must attend two days in a row and attendance cannot be split between the two different training offerings.

  • Presented as a live virtual training via Zoom Meeting platform.
  • Zoom link will be sent one week prior to registered participants. Link cannot be shared.
  • There are no prerequisite coursework assignments.
  • Training materials will be emailed to registered participants one week prior to the training date. Printing of the materials is not required.

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, participants will have the ability to:

  1. Define self-neglect
  2. Assess self-neglect in the 5 domains
  3. Identify safety and risk reduction interventions for adults and older adults who are self-neglecting
  4. Demonstrate an understanding of the framework for motivational interviewing
  5. Identify community partners to work within self-neglect cases

 

Notes

Notice about Browser:  To register, please use Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, and Apple Safari. There are several known issues with noncredit.temple.edu and Internet Explorer, since that browser isn’t updated by Microsoft anymore.

 

Technology Requirement

  • Audio and video ARE required for live trainings on the Zoom platform. Cameras must be turned on for the duration of the training.

You must have the hardware (desktop or laptop, tablet or smartphone) and software (Browsers such as Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Microsoft Edge) to access the internet. A broadband internet connection (DSL, cable, fiber, etc.) is recommended with a hardwired Ethernet cable. Wireless (Wi-Fi) connections may be utilized but a weak or congested signal may cause issues with video buffering or content access.

 

Social Work Continuing Education:

  • *Available and optional. Continuing Education fee is $20.00.

To obtain continuing education, please complete the following items:

  1. *Pay the continuing education Fee (can be paid online with a credit card by clicking the hyperlink)
  2. Attend the entire course 
  3. Complete the online request form (click on hyperlink)
  4. Complete the course evaluation after attending. This will be sent via email. Full name is required on the evaluation for SW CE.

This training has been approved for 6 continuing education hours by Temple University Harrisburg. Temple University Harrisburg is a pre-approved provider of continuing education by the PA State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists and Professional Counselors.  These credit hours satisfy requirements for LSW/LCSW/LMFT/LPC biennial license renewal.
