Course Description

Join us as we read authors who write of family, marriage, and personal freedom in a selection of classic and contemporary fiction. We begin with Lila, Marilyn
Robinson’s coda to the Gilead series. Next, is Gwendolyn Brooks sole novel, Maud Martha, a lyrical tale of an ordinary woman and her deceptively ordinary life. We continue with Elise Juska’s semi-autobiographical The Blessings, a tale of love and loss in a large, Irish–American family. We follow with Mona Simpson’s novella of two single Midwestern women, Off Keck Road. We end with Charlote Bronte’s masterpiece of gothic romance, Villette. Feel free to bring a snack or bag lunch.
