"Neighbours as Strangers: Cultural Identity and Ethical Practice in Canada and the United States"
Friday, November 13 from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM

(Registration closes November 11 at 5PM)

Although Canada and the United States were exposed to the same European intellectual traditions, each country reacted differently to these influences. The U.S. would evolve into a ruggedly, individualistic society while Canada would remain idealist and communitarian in its outlook. As a result, each country today developed its own cultural identity, and though geographically they are neighbours, in terms of social policies, political institutions, and popular culture in many ways they remain strangers to each other.
