Course Description

There are many well documented studies that illustrate the health implications of racism and other forms of systemic oppression. This course addresses and engages with the question: How do we engage in work that helps to dismantle

systems of oppression, our internalized unconscious bias, and also help people of color and/or support ourselves as clinicians of color doing this work?

This course will include didactic, interactive, and experiential learning modalities. We will spend the first 1.5 to 2 hours learning about social justice, anti-racism, and power and oppression 101 so that all participants are working with some of the same information. Participants will also engage in norm-setting for future, more experiential reflection spaces. The second 2-hour segment will be dedicated to reflection in affinity groups. White clinicians will reflect on their personal identities as it relates to clinical work. Clinicians of Color will find affinity space to process and find support in doing the work as a clinician of color. Finally, in our last 2 hours of the training, we will be coming together and having a discussion about next steps, including what white clinicians can do to help support clinicians of color.

Target Level Audience: Intermediate
