Course Description

Experiences Abroad
Eleanor Gesensway
Thursdays, 10:30 AM-12:00 PM
Experiences Abroad continues the theme of this year’s monthly Thursday literature study class. To participate in the discussion, members must read all the books and, at least once during the year, co-lead the discussion. This semester’s selections are by American authors who lived abroad at some time in their lives and who wrote about their experiences.

They are:

For Whom the Bell Tolls (E. Hemingway), February 4

The Sheltering Sky (P. Bowles), March 11

Memoirs of a Geisha (A. Golden), April 1.

Class limit: 26

Notes

Why when I'm registering do I join the wait list?
Several of our courses are in high demand. In order to accommodate our members who are not tech-savvy and have trouble registering online-we created a registration system in which there is no advantage to registering early, no disadvantage to registering later. When you register, you join the wait list for the course. After the registration period is over, we run a lottery on the courses, and it randomly determines who is admitted to each course and who is not. You typically receive word about which courses you are admitted to, two weeks before the start of the semester.

When will I be notified which classes I have been admitted to?
We typically notify our members about which courses they are admitted to at least two weeks before the semester starts.
