Course Description

This class will focus on utilizing alternative materials to construct garments as you explore pattern making, garment construction and creating art for the body. Students will take inspiration from artists and designers who create garments in unconventional ways and challenge traditional silhouettes. Using your favorite articles of clothing, you will learn how to create a garment pattern and construct wearable sculptural costumes with alternative processes and unconventional materials. Assignments will encourage students to explore materials as a way of experimenting with shape and form, and the relationship between the body and costume. No previous experience required.
