Course Description

Early Childhood Music Foundations Class is now being offered online.  The class will be based on the solid principles of the Gordon Institute for Music Learning, nurturing the child's innate musical ability through interactive music making with parents/caregivers.

Ages 0-4

This online, mixed-age program develops the very young child's potential in music and helps parents recognize and nurture their child's music making. The program provides a carefully planned sequence of music learning for children who are accompanied by parents or caregivers and uses the natural human inclination for chanting, singing and movement as the first steps in understanding melody, rhythm, and improvisation. Through interactive music making with parents and teachers, children discover the body as the primary music instrument.

Parents/caregivers and children experience music by participating in gentle flowing and rhythmic movement activities. Attention is given to infants’ spontaneous vocal responses, toddlers' increasing independence and desire to explore and play, and preschooler's love for imaginative play. Locomotor movement activities allow children to explore their music environment. Additional manipulatives easily found at home such as a plastic bowl, home-made shaker, towel and paper plate to name a few,  will help to stimulate curiosity and foster body coordination. Participants will need a small, clear space for movement, and access to a computer screen or monitor to view/watch activities.
