Course Description

Globally, approximately 1 million people die by suicide each year and almost 25% of clinicians will lose an individual to death by suicide in their career.  This beginner-level training is to help clinicians recognize the prevalence of suicide and the risk factors and warning signs that individuals may present within sessions that indicate they are more susceptible to considering suicide.  This training will help clinicians identify questions to ask individuals to assess for suicidal ideation, plan, means, and intent.  It focuses heavily on safety planning and touches on other interventions that may be useful to use with individuals who present with suicidal ideations or have made suicide attempts.  Specific steps for safety planning via telehealth will also be discussed.  The importance of protective factors and reinforcing an individual's reason for living, care can help reduce trauma or death due to suicide.
