Course Description
Trans 101 (LGBT Center Beginner Training)
This training is designed for the beginner or novice mental health professional and will provide a foundation for working effectively with individuals who identify as LGBTQ+. Terminology and inclusive practices will be emphasized.
Learner Outcomes
At the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Recognize accurate and respectful language when serving clients with LGBTQ+ identities
- Practice and demonstrate ability to identify and disrupt microaggressions
- Recognize/list the “CPR” steps of apologizing and repairing harm
- Explain how to remedy potential shortcomings and work toward greater inclusion
- Describe the 10 components of being an affective ally

This training series has been approved for 21 continuing education hours (7 hours for each day of training) through co-sponsorship of Temple University Harrisburg, a PA State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Professional Counselor pre-approved provider of continuing education. These credit hours satisfy requirements for LSW/LCSW/LMFT/LPC biennial license renewal. Certificates of attendance documenting continuing education hours will be issued by Temple University Harrisburg.
NOTE: The September 16, 2019 training was held from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. instead of the usual 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. The adjusted CE hours for that section only is 6 CE hours.
