Course Description

Modern Dance has two different levels/sections: Beginners (ages 8-teen) & Advanced (ages 12-18)

Beginner:  This class focuses on the basic foundation of Modern Dance technique stressing alignment, strength, balance, and coordination within a fun and encouraging framework.  Dancers will be given movement sequences to memorize and rehearse in class, and will also participate in choreography sessions in which the class will explore the art of making dance.  Each dancer's dance creations will be incorporated within our end-of-year performance.

Advanced:  Building on the basic principles of Modern Dance, this class challenges the dancer to develop her/his own dance voice through a deepening awareness of the dance movement concepts.  Lengthened dance sequences and an increased understanding of musicality are stressed.  Dancers also continue to explore choreographic concepts in creating their own dance movement and phrasing which are incorporated within the end-of-year performance.

Proper dance attire required: tights and leotard or loose fitting pants and leotard.

Beginner: Saturdays 1:00-2:30pm
Advanced: Tuesdays 5:30-7:00pm
