This course is the third in a series of explorations of classic Canadian novels. We will be reading, discussing, and analyzing two novels, Margaret Laurence’s The Diviners and Michael Ondaatje’s In the Skin of a Lion. Laurence’s novel gives us a portrait of Morag Gunn, a woman, who though marginalized by society, is a survivor, demonstrating courage and resolve in a quest for love. Ondaatje gives us a story about the building of Toronto by outsiders, a romance which traverses “the boundary between history and myth.”
