Course Description

Individuals who are interested in becoming Personal Care Home Administrators in Pennsylvania can take the required 100 Hour program. According to statute PA 55 Section 2600.64 (a)(2) regarding administrator training and orientation: Prior to initial employment as an administrator a candidate shall successfully complete a 100 hour standardized (DHS) Department approved administrator training course.

Program Fee: $1,575.00 paid at the time of registration (this includes all training materials and the final exam cost). Space will be limited, and registration will close once the class has reached capacity. Space cannot be held prior to receipt of the full program fee.

Orientation Schedule (Mandatory and Offered by Department of Human Services): 
This orientation is offered through DHS. It is a free, mandatory, 6-hour program that must be completed before, during, or after the 100 Hour Training and exam in order to become a Personal Care Home Administrator.  Registration is required and fills up quickly. Notes

Cancellation Policy:  

  • All cancellation requests must be made in writing via email to Jennifer Donahue at jennifer.donahue@temple.edu, and received by the Temple University Harrisburg staff before becoming effective. Please note that if registrant does not officially withdraw from a course and does not attend the course, the registrant is still responsible for payment.
  • In the event of inclement weather or other events beyond the control of TUH, TUH will make every effort to cancel or reschedule continuing education courses with as much notice as possible. Notification will be sent via email through DestinyOne once a decision to cancel or reschedule has been made. In all instances, TUH will follow the University’s and/or the agency’s cancellation and rescheduling decisions. If TUH cancels a continuing education course due to any of the above reasons, a full refund of fees paid will be issued.
  • TUH reserves the right to cancel continuing education courses due to low enrollment. A full refund of fees paid will be issued under this circumstance.
  • TUH makes best efforts to process eligible refund requests within two (2) weeks. Refunds will be issued to the original form of payment.
  • Cancellations received ten (10) business days or more prior to the first day of the scheduled course will be eligible for a full refund of fees paid. Cancellations received nine (9) business days to one (1) business day prior to the first day of the scheduled course will be subject to a cancellation charge of $50.00. Cancellations received less than one (1) business day prior to the first day of the scheduled course will not be eligible for a refund

 

Prerequisites

Qualifications necessary to attend this program

Applicants must be 21 years of age or older, a Pennsylvania resident and meet one of the requirements listed below: 
1. For a home serving eight or fewer residents:
- A general education development diploma or high school diploma and two years of direct care or administrative experience in the human services field
OR
2. For a home serving nine or more residents:
- An associate degree or 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university
- A license as a registered nurse from the Pennsylvania Department of State
- A license as a licensed practical nurse from the Pennsylvania Department of State, and one year experience in a related field
- A license as a nursing home administrator from the Pennsylvania Department of State.

LOCATION:
Classes will be presented virtually through the Zoom platform. A full schedule will be provided to registered participants.

COURSE SCHEDULE:
Every Thursday from February 4, 2021 through May 27, 2021 

The program consists of a total of 100 classroom hours. Each week the class will begin at 9:00 am PROMPTLY and will finish at varying times depending on the topic covered. The DHS PCHA exam will be held at the end of the program. The time of the exam will be announced closer to the end of the program to participants who have met attendance and payment criteria. If a participant misses a module (all or part), they are not eligible to take the exam until make-up requirements have been satisfied.

ATTENDANCE:
Attendance at all sessions is mandatory. Instructors take attendance at 9:00 am and after each break (morning, lunch and afternoon). Participants are responsible for being on time. Participants must have the ability to use the Zoom platform and have audio and video in order to participate during classroom instruction. Arriving late or leaving early will NOT be permitted. Individuals who miss any part of the class will be required to make up the entire module.

TRAINING MATERIALS:
Training materials and a Zoom meeting link will be emailed out to registered participants on a weekly basis, prior to the virtual class. 

REQUIRED EXAM: 
The DHS online exam will be administered at the end of the course.
- To be eligible to sit for the exam you must attend all of the required 100 hours of training.
- If for any reason, participants miss any of the required 100 hours, the missed time must be made up and a certificate documenting proof of the made-up time must be provided to Temple University Harrisburg at least one week prior to the exam date.

Make-up Requirements: 
The Department of Human Services has mandated that to become a new administrator, each person must attend all 100 hours of class time. Since all classes and modules are mandatory, any missed class time of a module will need to be made up. Participants will not be eligible to sit for the required exam if any of the 100-hour requirement is missed. It is the sole responsibility of the participant to make up any missed class time of the same module.

If you miss any of 100 hours you must:
- Attend the missed module(s) at another Pennsylvania Department of Human Services approved PCHA 100 Hour program provider, which can be found on the DHS website. This will result in additional costs to the participant.
- Provide Temple University Harrisburg with a certificate of completion from a Pennsylvania Department of Human Services approved PCHA 100 Hour program provider.
- Each paid attendee of Temple University Harrisburg will have a window of 365 days to make up the missed module with Temple University Harrisburg, if the module is offered again in that time period, free of charge. However, this will result in your exam date being delayed until all modules (100 hours) are complete.
- Temple University Harrisburg course participants are not eligible to receive any refunds for missed class time.
