Course Description

Haunted by love, by the past, by yearning for what is desired and what is lost. All stories are ghost stories, said the late Barry Hannah. Join us as we read about literary hauntings: a house holding a secret crime, in Sarah Water’s The Little Stranger; a late husband’s ghost, in Laura Van den Berg’s The Third Hotel; an ex-husband, in Rachel Cusk’s Outline; the racial past, in Jessmyn Ward’s National Book Award winning novel, Sing, Unburied Sing, and the sexual psyche of a married couple in Clare Fuller’s Bitter Orange. Feel free to bring a snack or bagged lunch.
