Course Description
Working in any organization requires written communication in a wide range of formats for multiple audiences. In this class, you'll learn practical techniques for producing professional business communications. You'll practice writing strong openings that grab attention, making your ideas flow smoothly and logically, choosing an appropriately professional and friendly tone, and combining your skills to create effective written materials.

- Create organized and strategic communications by developing objectives and considering the audience;
- Write using proper grammar and language;
- Design readable communications with appropriate formatting and structure;
- Become persuasive writers using powerful and action-oriented words.
Instructor Biography
Cathy J. Toner, JD, MJ, MSCM. Cathy is the Assistant Dean for Talent and Staff Development, Community and External Outreach at the Villanova School of Business (VSB) at Villanova University. She is responsible for identifying, engaging, and developing talent among VSB staff, and leads the VSB Staff Advisory Council. She also leads the School’s community and external outreach efforts, including programming for high school girls and underrepresented minorities to educate them about the benefits of business education and a career in business.
Cathy is also an adjunct faculty member in the School of Business, teaching Corporate Responsibility & Regulation, Employment Law, Business Law, Business Fundamentals, and Business Writing for Economists.
She holds a Juris Doctor and a Master of Journalism from Temple University and has an undergraduate degree in Communications from the University of Scranton. Cathy recently completed her Master of Science in Church Management from Villanova University.
Cancellation, Withdrawal and Refund Policy
A participant who withdraws from a non-credit course, in writing, up to one-week prior to the starting date of the course, will receive a refund, minus a $25 withdrawal fee; for all certificate programs the withdrawal fee is $50. For courses costing $75 or less, the withdrawal fee is $10 per course. No refunds will be given after that time. E-mail your withdrawal request to: course.withdrawals@temple.edu. Please note that if you do not officially withdrawal from a course and you do not attend the course, you are still responsible for payment. Temple University reserves the right to cancel a course for any reason. If the course is cancelled, you will be notified and your entire tuition will be refunded.
