Course Description

#MeToo and the Non-Profit

Thursday, May 3, 2018 (8:00 am - 10:00 am)
Giant Food Store Community Room - Camp Hill PA

Companies large and small received a wake-up call late last year, as the #MeToo movement reminded them of their responsibility to create a positive work climate that includes all employees. But what about non-profit organizations?  Do non-profits need to pay attention to the work climate, especially regarding sexual harassment, or are the rules different for them?   What are the rules today, and have they changed? Join us to discuss these questions, and learn more about: The roots of our understanding of the #MeToo movement -- civil rights and fair employment law; the connection between discrimination and harassment in the workplace; the non-profit employer’s responsibility to address situations if and when they occur, as well as processes and procedures to consider having in place proactively; and the advantage that non-profit organizations have in creating and maintaining a positive, harassment-free work environment.  The Enhancing Communities Learning Series (ECLS) is a program of Temple University Harrisburg. The series offers you a convenient way to learn about important and relevant issues affecting nonprofits while enjoying a meal with your colleagues in the community. The Enhancing Communities Learning Series provides more than a chance to passively listen to presentations. We want you to be part of an interactive process of discovering new talents, opportunities and resources in the community – all while making the community more aware of your organization’s work. Each Learning Series session includes:  a meal and networking; a call for announcements about upcoming events; workshops and funding opportunities; a workshop on a topic germane to nonprofit capacity building or community issues. The meal itself is just the beginning.

Please email Julie Shade at julie.shade@temple.edu if you have questions or would like to learn more about ECLS. We will also be offering:
