Course Description

This course is for individuals who received their Credential for Strengths-based Family Workers (SFW) and need to obtain their recredential.

Recredentialing allows workers to demonstrate that they are still competent in strengths-based skills, stay up-to-date on new developments in the field, and remain connected to the network.  SFW requires a recredential every three years.

Individuals who received their credential or recredential and are due to Recredential in 2026 should register and complete the course this year. You will have until December 31, 2026 to complete the course. There will be a total of 4 courses you may register for. Please be mindful of the date you enroll in. The course will be available one month prior to the scheduled class time for enrollment.

The SFW Recredential: Viewing Social Determinants of Health Through a Strengths-based Lens explores how everyday life circumstances shape the health, well-being, and experiences of families. Participants are introduced to Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) and learn how factors such as where families live, work, learn, and play influence physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Using a strengths-based approach, the course helps learners recognize family and community assets, deepen understanding of mental health and well-being, and apply this perspective to support and empower families in their work more effectively.

Learner Outcomes

After completing this course, participants will be able to: 

  • Explain the concept of Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) and their impact on family well-being. 

  • Recognize and respect families as experts in their own experiences and identify the strengths they use to navigate challenges related to SDOH 

  • Apply strengths-based approaches and strategies to support families in the context of SDOH. 

  • Reflect on the role of the family worker in addressing SDOH and commit to action that enhances equitable, strengths-based support.  

 

Notes

Cancellation and Refund Policy:  

All cancellation requests must be received within 72 hours (3 business days) from your enrollment date AND the registered person has not accessed any portion of the online course. Cancellations that meet the criteria listed above will be eligible for a full refund of fees paid.

COURSE DATES AND REGISTRATION INFORMATION - 2026:

Starting January 1, 2026, the recredential course will no longer run with one course all year long with an open-enrollment. Moving forward, you will need to determine the session you wish to enroll in be course dates below. Enrollment will begin one month prior to the start date listed. 

New Course Dates:

  • Winter: January 1 – March 31 (enrollment through the month of January for this first round)
  • Spring: April 1 – June 30 (enrollment begins March 1st)
  • Summer: July 1 – September 30 (enrollment begins June 1st)
  • Fall: October 1 – December 31 (enrollment begins September 1st)

 

Steps in new process:

  1. Enroll during the enrollment month as listed above for the session you wish to attend.
  2. Complete all course requirements by the final day of your selected session. (passing ALL assignments with an 80% or higher)
Please note: If you do not complete the course requirements within your chosen session, you will need to re-enroll and repay to join a future session. We encourage you to plan carefully and register during a period that aligns best with your schedule. Temple will not provide refunds or transfers for not completing the course on time.

Thank you for your participation in the SFW Credential program! Anyone that obtained their credential/recredential in 2023 is due for recredentialing this year. The deadline to complete this is December 31, 2026.

This badge recognizes foundational knowledge of Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) and their impact on family well-being. Earners understand the five key areas of SDOH, can identify common barriers families face, and apply strengths-based, empowerment-focused strategies to support resilience and advocacy. Badge earners are prepared to translate knowledge into action to improve family outcomes.

After you are registered, you will receive an automated email with the subject line “Temple University System Access”. This email gives you steps to activate your Canvas/AccessNet student account. This is NOT Temple's Noncredit Registration site. You are on the Noncredit site. Your course is in a Learning Management System - Canvas. To access it, you must agree to Temple University's technology policies and activate your account. 

  • Following the instructions in the “Temple University System Access” email will take you to accounts.temple.edu, where you’ll input your TU ID (included in the email-9 digit number), your last name, and your Date of Birth. Please note that if you enter different information than you provided Temple University in your initial class registration, you will see an error message on the account activation page and should contact noncredit@temple.edu for a fix.

Within a few minutes after activating your AccessNet, you will be able to log into Canvas with your new credentials (username/password) and begin your course on your start date. To log into Canvas directly go to canvas.temple.edu 

Your credentials for this TU Noncredit Registration site is different than what you will use to log into Canvas. Please understand, there are two sites - (1) Temple University Noncredit Registration and (2) Canvas, that uses AccessNet credentials. 

 

Please note: If you do not complete the course requirements within your chosen session, you will need to re-enroll and repay to join a future session if available (excluding the winter session as the SFW Reinstatement, previously offered every January-March will no longer be offered as of September 2026. We encourage you to plan carefully and register during a period that aligns best with your schedule. Temple will not provide refunds or transfers for not completing the course on time. Anyone who does not complete their SFW Recredential in their required recredential year will be required to restart the SFW Credential.
