Course Description

Prostitution in The Lady of the Camellias (Dumas); Of Human Bondage (Somerset Maugham); Mrs. Warren's Profession (Shaw); and Resurrection (Tolstoy). Prostitution is tragedy, sociology, law, religion, psychology, art and literature. Attitudes and laws have varied widely from ancient times to the present and all over the world. Women are victims and men victimizers, and the reverse. The works we will read are some of the most brilliant representatives of the theme of prostitution in literature.
