Course Description

This training is only for Bureau of Human Services Licensing Representatives. 

 

This hybrid training will address numerous medication topics related to personal care home and assisted living facilities, to include the most common medication errors, the 5-rights of medication administration, paper MARs versus eMARs, and drug diversion. There will be an open discussion of common regulatory citations that cause concern or issues in licensed facilities. There will also be a presentation on the Medication Administration training.

 

Course Outline

Registration: 

  • Individual online registration is required  
  • This training is for Pennsylvania Department of Human Services Bureau of Human Services Licensing staff only 
  • There are a limited number of registrations per training 
  • This hybrid training has two parts, both need to be completed to receive credit. The total training time (both parts) is 8 hours. 
     

In order to receive 8-credit hours, participants must: 

  • Complete the 3-hour prerequisite training, via Thinkific  
  • Participate in the 5-hour live virtual training, via Zoom  
  • VIDEO AND AUDIO required to be turned on for live virtual training, via Zoom
  • Certificates for 8 hours will be issued upon successful completion and verification of both activities  
  • Partial certificates for completing one activity are not available

Learner Outcomes

At the conclusion of this, training participants will have the ability to: 

  • Understand common medication terms and their abbreviations. 
  • Recall common medication errors in long-term living and discuss how they can be prevented. 
  • Compare a paper MAR to an eMAR. 
  • Explain what drug diversion is and why and how drugs are diverted. 
  • Differentiate the investigative roles of the facility, licensing, law enforcement, and protective service staff.

Recommendations

Audio and video ARE required and must be turned on for the live, virtual training via the Zoom platform. If you do not have audio on your computer, the Zoom platform can be accessed on your smartphone or tablet. You must have the hardware (desktop or laptop, tablet or smartphone) and software (Browsers such as Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Microsoft Edge) to access the internet. A broadband internet connection (DSL, cable, fiber, etc.) is recommended with a hardwired Ethernet cable. Wireless (Wi-Fi) connections may be utilized but a weak or congested signal may cause issues with video buffering or content access.
