Course Description

Friedrich Nietzsche: An Introduction Instructor: Michael Heinsdorf Day of Week:  Wednesdays Dates: Jan 31 – Apr 10 No Class: Mar 6 Time: 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM Location: In-Person at Ambler (TUA)   From the “Little Pastor” in his family, to the brilliant private school student, to the scholarly philologist, and eventually to the almost self-exiled existentialist, Nietzsche  pushed himself to do what he ultimately is known for: BECOME WHO YOU ARE!. His life can be divided into two parts: the creator of profoundly serious, academic endeavors, ardent Wagner defenses, while being one of the youngest professors ever to be hired at the University in Basel, Switzerland, versus the later sage of internal rebellion, which redirected his life from philology to philosophy, to scandalous social and religious criticism, ultimately leading him to reject much which formed his being to become a prophet of the future. Absolutely no previous knowledge of Nietzsche or philosophy is required. This is meant to be done in seminar format with lively discussion and individual opinions and viewpoints.    Max In-Person Registrants: 15   Suggested text: Friedrich Nietzsche: A Nietzsche Reader (Penguin Classics) ISBN-13: 978-0-140-44329-5 (Paperback edition).   Instructor Bio: Michael Heinsdorf, MDiv, STM, MA, a former Lutheran pastor, high school German instructor, and an adjunct faculty member at LaSalle University.

Notes

Why when I’m registering do I join the Wait List?
Several of our courses are in high demand. In order to accommodate our members who are not tech-savvy and have trouble registering online, we created a registration system in which there is no advantage to registering early, no disadvantage to registering later.

When registering, you join the Wait List for each course. Don’t be alarmed. This does not mean the course is full. After the registration period is over, we run a lottery on the courses, and it randomly determines who is admitted to each course and who is not. You typically will receive notification regarding which courses you are admitted to, about two weeks before the start of the semester. If a course accepts 150 or more students, you are very likely to get into it.
