Course Description

This presentation will discuss the complete digital workflow for conservative partial coverage ceramic restorations. Participants will gain an understanding of the tooth preparations required for printing or milling of ceramic restorations.  Each participant will have a hands-on experience in scanning with Trios5 to evaluate their preparation, design the restoration and ultimately 3D Print and Mill. Our didactic portion will include the evidence base behind treatment planning decisions and the material choices.  We will differentiate between the milled and printed restorations.  There will be a discussion on choices in 3D printers and milling units that are available in the US market that are affordable for any dental practice. We shall end the session with bonding protocols for ceramics and resins that are applicable to any restoration. 

 

Learner Outcomes

Upon course completion, the participant will: 

  • Understand Evidence Based treatment planning for Partial coverage ceramic/resin restorations. 

  • Understand Tooth preparation for Ceramic/resin restorations that are Milled/3D Printed. 

  • Understand and experience Intraoral Scanning with Trios5 Scanner. 

  • Understand and Design your Restorations with 3Shape Design Studio. 

  • Understand differences between 3D Printed and Milled restorations and materials available in the US market. 

  • Understand Bonding Protocols required for ceramic/resin restorations.

Presenters: 

Nupur Patel BDS, DMD, MS, FACP 

Evidence Based Planning and Design of Partial Coverage Ceramic Restorations 

Dr. Nupur Patel is a Board-certified Prosthodontist. She completed her Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree from India before moving the United States. She then completed DMD through the Program for Advanced Standing Students at Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry. She obtained her Certificate in Prosthodontics and Master of Science in Oral Biology from University of Pennsylvania and a Fellowship in Oral Oncology and Maxillofacial Prosthodontics from the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Currently, Dr. Patel is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Restorative Dentistry at Maurice H Kornberg School of Dentistry at Temple University in Philadelphia. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics and has received multiple awards from local and national organizations. Dr. Patel is a fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists, an associate fellow of American Academy of Maxillofacial Prosthetics, a member of the American Dental Association and has presented multiple posters at national and international meetings. 

Geraldine Weinstein, DDS, MPH 

Intraoral Scanning Opens Doors to many Digital Workflows, How we use Trios5 at Temple! 

Dr. Weinstein is a Clinical Professor and Director of Digital Education and Practice at Kornberg School of Dentistry. Since graduating from the University of Maryland Dental school, she has had experiences of working in private practice and multiple dental schools. Her greatest interest and passion lie in integration of Digital technology such as Intraoral scanners, software and haptic simulators into dental education to increase student learning. She is dedicated to the creation of digital workflows that can improve evaluation and understanding of our clinical work to create reliable patient outcomes. 

Sooryung Ann 

Live Demo and Hands on: Designing your restoration with 3Shape Design Studio 

Sooryung Ann is the in-house dental technician and assistant director of CAD/CAM lab at Kornberg school of Dentistry. She has a background of computer science and interior architecture, but changes in life led her to a career in the dental field, and it’s already been more than 15 years now. As you all understand, digital technology made a lot of things come true that were not imagined possible several years ago. Soo’s interests lie in new, better and faster technology that she can learn and share. She enjoys using digital technology on esthetic cases that can provide both a smile on patient’s face and functional solution. 

Shovon Kasem, DMD 

3D Printing for In Office fabrication of Multiple Dental Restorations 

Dr Shovon Kasem grew up in Orlando, FL. He attended the University of Florida where he graduated with a degree in Psychology, a Master's Degree in Human Nutrition, and DMD from UF College of Dentistry. He has completed an implant continuum program, earning him the degree of Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists” (FICOI). Dr. Kasem established a private practice in Florida that specializes in same day esthetic restorations.  He has lectured nationwide sharing his many digital workflows he has developed.
