Course Description

In his recent book, New York Times columnist David Brooks portrays the professional and life struggles, sacrifices and challenges faced by nine historical exemplars: Francis Perkins, Dwight Eisenhower, Dorothy Day, George Marshall, A. Phillip Randall, Baynard Rustin, George Elliot, St. Augustine, Samuel Johnson.

The course will focus on high points in the lives of most of the above persons, using lectures and  discussions about the qualities associated with these impressive, if sometimes flawed, contributors to the social order.
