5 Cuentos Cortos y una Novela (5 Short Stories and a Novel)

Instructor: Alicia Romeu
Dates: Tuesdays, Sep 26-Oct 31
Time: 10:00 AM-11:30 AM
Location: Online via Zoom

We will read 5 short stories and 1 short novel by Spanish speaking writers, such as Cortázar, Márquez, Esquivel among others. All of the material is available in translation on the Instructor Handout page and links will be provided to access the material in English. We will focus on one story per session. You will meet the writer, summarize the story and the rest of the session will be dedicated to talking about the reading, encouraging participants to share their thoughts, opinions, comments, and questions. The course will not require knowledge of Spanish but if all participants are able, we could conduct the sessions in Spanish. In order to start the first session, you will need to read a very short story ahead of the session. A link to the story will be available on my Instructor Handout page.
Pre-requisite: None. Knowledge of Spanish language is helpful but not required.
Maximum online registrants: 20

Notes

Why when I’m registering do I join the Wait List?
Several of our courses are in high demand. In order to accommodate our members who are not tech-savvy and have trouble registering online, we created a registration system in which there is no advantage to registering early, no disadvantage to registering later.

When registering, you join the Wait List for each course. Don’t be alarmed. This does not mean the course is full. After the registration period is over, we run a lottery on the courses, and it randomly determines who is admitted to each course and who is not. You typically will receive notification regarding which courses you are admitted to, about two weeks before the start of the semester. If a course accepts 150 or more students, you are very likely to get into it.
