Course Description

This course is an introduction to some of the major philosophical and religious traditions of Asia, and their roles in Asia and the world today. You will learn about some of the dominant features of these traditions and be exposed to several important ideas, institutions, and practices. How do these ideas influence the behavior of individuals and communities? How do individual and communal behaviors and beliefs differ regionally and historically? We will read and discuss selections from primary works as well as secondary scholarship, while surveying key doctrines and historical developments.
