Course Description

This course, open to all backgrounds and experience levels, is an introduction to the art of the book.  It covers traditional sewn binding techniques including those used in the production of medieval manuscripts and early printed books.  Students will engage first hand with these historical traditions while also exploring their potential for personal creative expression.  Each session will cover a different binding skill, culminating in the production of a unique artists book combining the techniques covered throughout the course.   Projects will incorporate a range of media including drawing, photography, collage, graphic design, and printmaking in the execution of students’ unique book designs.
