Course Description

It has been said that Canadian Literature is preoccupied with a sense of place, a struggle for physical and spiritual survival, the majesty of nature, and the quest for regional, cultural, and national identities. This course, which is the first of a series, will begin to explore these themes through two novels appearing in 1945, one from the English perspective and one from the French perspective, and focused on Québec and Montréal: MacLennan’s Two Solitudes and Roy’s The Tin Flute.
