Course Description

This course covers the mythologies of Asia and the Pacific. Their significant themes are social networks, sacrifice, and the omnipresence of water. From China’s Yellow River Valley to the Pacific Ocean  and from the ice and snow of Korea to the cross-cultural conception of the Milky Way as a great river across the sky, water is everywhere, in daily life and in the stories of these civilizations. The importance of effective and cooperative social structure in surviving this watery world is underscored time and again.
