Exploring a Few Writers Puzzling With Identity

Dates: Tuesdays, June 6-July 25 (No Class: July 4)
Time: 1:00 PM-2:30 PM
Location: In-person at Center City (TUCC)
Students will explore seven writers in the context of a mix of genres. Their works of art will lead us to consider multiple perspectives, going from Kafka to Joyce, Toomer, Momaday, Wiesel, Ozick, and Rich. For the first class on June 6, be ready to discuss Franz Kafka’s short story The Metamorphosis. On June 13, we will discuss James Joyce’s play Exiles. There is no standard text for the course, but each work is readily available.
Pre-requisite: Eagerness to read and discuss.

Instructor’s Bio:
Lyle Murley, PhD, English, Northwestern University; MA, English, University of Chicago; BA English, St. Olaf College. Lyle was a professor of English at California Lutheran University, chair of the department, and now a professor emeritus. He was Professor of the Year on two occasions and received the Sears Roebuck Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence.

In-Person CoursesIf you are enrolled in an in-person course, you will be required to:
