Course Description

LGBTQ+ Leadership Series attendees develop knowledge effective business people need for success. They learn how finance, negotiation, communication, and other skills relate to leadership. They also spend time with peers discussing the challenges LGBTQ+ workers face as they rise within the workplace. Each of the three program days consist of morning and afternoon topics. Sessions include a mix of time for lecture, breakout groups, questions and networking.

Program days take place on Zoom from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET with an hour break for lunch from noon - 1:00 p.m ET. An optional welcome session for all participants meet on Zoom the day before the first session from noon - 12:30 p.m. ET.

Course Outline

The series includes the following topics, delivered across three days:

DAY ONE
Session 1: Understanding & Leveraging Your Leadership Style
Session 2: Career Management

DAY TWO
Session 3: The Art of Negotiation
Session 4: Finance for the Non-Financial Manager

DAY THREE
Session 5: Leading Organizational Change
Session 6: Executive Presence & Communication Skills

Learner Outcomes

  • Understand the business case for leadership & how your style adds value
  • Leverage your leadership style to influence your staff and other key stakeholders
  • Recognize critical communication strategies that support a strong executive presence
  • Organize and deliver engaging presentations to groups of any size
  • Use negotiation strategies to reach agreements that satisfy both parties
  • Explore the relationship dynamics that create power in a negotiation
  • Analyze financial and accounting information
  • Apply basic financial and accounting concepts to managerial decision-making
  • Incorporate planning for change into your business and career strategy
  • Evaluate opportunities for creating competitive advantage by changing organizational culture
  • Develop a career strategy that supports your professional development goals
  • Determine opportunities to develop your own “board of directors” for mentorship & professional growth

Recommendations

For this online program participants are encouraged to join using a laptop or desktop computer for the best experience. The Center recommends a computer that meets Temple University's minimum specifications.

This series is offered approximately two times a year: once in the spring, and once in the fall with series alternating between in-person and online delivery.
