Course Description

Note: This is a three-hour Protective Services Enrichment training. Participants will be required to take a minimum of three more enrichment hours to meet OAPS requirements.

 

Compassion fatigue, secondary traumatic stress, vicarious trauma, direct trauma, stress, and burnout- protective services caseworkers can experience these at any given time. Work demands can be overwhelming and challenging to manage, and caseworkers need to identify how stress can affect their overall well-being and performance. This training will provide an overview of the stress cycle and assist learners in developing a personal plan to manage stressors and build resilience. This training will also encourage learners to commit to implementing their strategies.

  • Individual registration is required.
  • Enrollment is only available to adult protective services (APS) and older adults protective services (OAPS) staff and is not available to the public.

 

To receive Protective Services credit hours, participants are required to:  

  • Participate in the live training (via Zoom)
  • Video and audio are required to be on for the duration, with the camera positioned with the participant's full face is on the screen.
  • Certificates will be issued upon successful completion of the training
  • Partial certificates for missing any portion are not available. 

 

OAPS staff are required to attend six (6) hours of enrichment per calendar year (Jan-Dec).

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of this training, participants will have the ability to:

  1. Identify stressors, in their professional and personal lives
  2. Identify how stress impacts their overall well-being
  3. Distinguish between self-care vs. self-medication
  4. Develop personal strategies that work for them to improve the quality and resiliency of their professional and personal lives

 

Notes

Details

  • This training will be live, via Zoom, and is combined with reading materials
    •  The Zoom link will be sent one week prior to the training
  • All participants will be required to have the following technology to join:
    • Zoom Meeting access 
    • a web camera turned on for the entire training and positioned so the instructor can see the participant's full face on the screen
    • a computer microphone and speakers turned on for the entire training
  • A certificate will be issued for Protective Services credit hours upon completion of the requirements and the live training
    • Attendees must be on time, participate, and attend the entire training for credit
  • Participants may not be in transit for the duration of the training

Social Work Continuing Education

This training is approved for 3 continuing education hours by Temple University Harrisburg. Temple University Harrisburg is a pre-approved provider of continuing education by the PA State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Professional Counselors.  These credit hours satisfy the requirements for LSW/LCSW/LMFT/LPC biennial license renewal.
