Course Description

This art appreciation course explores still life, genre, and super-sized installation depictions of food and dining by artists as varied as Arcimboldo, Cézanne, Matisse, and Judy Chicago. Featuring ravishing details that range from the symbolic to the social, our discussion centers on an array of artists, ‘isms, media, and scale that dramatically connects our understanding of eating rituals from the past to the present. A blending of lecture and artful conversation contributes to learning for all.
