Course Description
Why Greenland?
Instructor: Marc Kaufman
Day of Week: Thursday
Dates: Feb. 5 - April 2 (8 sessions)
Time: 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Location: In-person at TUCC
Our government’s efforts to gain control over Greenland have created a crisis of extraordinary gravity that could result in the break-up of NATO. The Greenland class will dissect the news as it changes over the semester. The class will also dig beneath the news to learn about the rich history, vast mineral resources, crucial global location, and fast-changing climate of the world’s largest island. The long-term melting of Greenland and the resulting opening of a Northwest Passage are central to the administration’s case for the island, but there is reason to doubt that explanation. Kaufman was a foreign correspondent for many years and has reported from Greenland.
