Course Description

From what types of trees to installing and maintaining various types of equipment, join Arboretum Director Kathy Salisbury and Plant Records Curator Anne Brennan for this combination walk and talk and demonstration to learn all about the timing and process of collecting sap to make syrup.

Notes

The registration fee includes a sap tapping starter kit that contains:

  • 40-page step-by-step Maple Sugaring At Home instruction booklet
  • 7/16" tapping bit with 3/8" shank
  • 3 stainless steel spiles (spouts) with hooks
  • 3 high-impact polypropylene buckets (each holds 3 gallons of sap)
  • 3 bucket lids to keep rain, snow and debris out of your sap
  • Spile cleaning brush (8-3/4"L)
  • 2 sq yards cheese cloth for filtering sap prior to storing

This kit will provide you with everything you need to tap trees for sap this winter season!
