Course Description

This exciting course is essentially an extended discussion focused on the reintroduction to the fundamental concepts of Algebra. Additionally, there will be exposure to basic geometric shapes and interpretation of applicable formulas and concepts. There is an extensive emphasis on Algebra’s terminology and conceptual understanding. Learners will increase confidence creating, evaluating and solving algebraic equations. Consistent attendance and engagement are essential for increased success and building a strong foundation for future math trainings. Upon completion, learners will be more prepared for success for various personal enrichment goals and professional advancement examinations (i.e. GED, college/training school entrance examinations and occupational evaluations).

Session 1 Understanding Algebraic Fundamentals

Week 1 Baseline Examination Administered; Student/Teacher Introductions; Types of Numbers and Fractions, decimals and percentages; Review of Arithmetic Operations; Using the Order of Operations

Week 2 Recognizing Algebraic Operations/Symbols and Variables; Rules for Operations/Properties with Integers

Week 3 Interpreting, Evaluating and Simplifying Algebraic Expressions

Week 4 Solving Single and Multi-Step Algebraic Equations

Week 5 Algebraic Techniques with Geometric shapes, concepts and formulas; The Pythagorean Relationship

Session 2 Exploring Further into Algebra

Week 1 Understanding and Working with the Quadratic Formula and Equation

Week 2 Understanding the Coordinate Grid; Graphing Linear Equations; the Slope formula

Week 3 Those ‘Troublesome’ Word Problems: Creating, Translating and Solving Page3

Week 4 Post-Training Examination Administered
