Course Description

Landscape shrubs often lose their vigor and desired shape a few years after planting. By the time clients ask for our help to "tame" these plants in their mature landscapes, it's often too late for a simple trim. Fortunately, most shrubs have an innate ability to quickly replace lost branches with new forms of growth. Through this hands-on, outdoor workshop, learn how to channel this regenerative process through intentional pruning to reduce a shrub's size, lower its visual center of gravity, and improve its flowering display.

Forever Young: Rejuvenating Mature Shrubs through Pruning is taught by ISA Certified Arborist and Ambler Arboretum Plant Records Curator, Anne Brennan. Anne worked as an independent pruning specialist for residential and institutional clients before taking her current role as Plant Records Curator at the Ambler Arboretum. She has been an ISA Certified Arborist since 2007, holds a B.S. in Horticultural Science from Penn State University, and enjoys improving the lives of landscape trees and shrubs through pruning.

Attendees should bring pruning shears and a pruning saw. Loppers are optional.

By attending this workshop, professionals can earn 3 CEU's through the International Society of Arboriculture.
