Course Description

This training is intended for Adult Protective Services workers and is mandatory.

 

This training specifically addresses the NAPSA competencies regarding Risk Assessment, including:

  • Overview of Risk Assessment
  • Indicators of immediate risk of ANE
  • Lethality indicators
  • Emergency medical or psychiatric situations
  • Impact of illness/disability on client’s ability to protect him/herself
  • Environmental hazards
  • What to do when the client refuses services

 

REGISTRATION

  • This course is for adult protective services (APS) staff and is not available to the public
  • Individual online registration is required for each person
  • There are a limited number of registrations available per training

SCHEDULE

  • Participants are required to be on time
  • Extra time will be needed to travel and navigate traffic, parking, and walking. Please plan accordingly
  • Sign-in is from 8:30 to 9 AM
  • The training begins promptly at 9 AM and ends at 4 PM
  • Lunch break will be 1 hour
  • Stretch breaks will be provided throughout the day

  • Total time 7 hrs (including 1 hour lunch)

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, participants will have the ability to:

  1. Define risk assessment and its function
  2. Assess risk factors in the five domains
    • Physical and functional status
    • Mental health status and capacity
    • Living environment
    • Financial
    • Social (risk posed by others, including caretakers and family members)
  3. Assess overall levels of risk in terms of severity and urgency)
  4. Describe the benefits and limitations of risk assessment tools
  5. Match appropriate intervention with risk factors
