Special Deeds for Special Needs Patients

In this lecture, Dr. Shapira will discuss what a "special needs" patient is all about.  He will discuss developmental and neurodegenerative disorders, the importance of assessments and to understand the Golden Rule of Patient care.  He will discuss the physical limitations of caring for a "special needs" patient along with the importance of "MID" and using the right materials.  The audience will discover the reality of being "different" and how most of us cope with our own "Special Needs."  Everyone is different, and we all have our "Special Needs".

Upon course completion, the participant will:

  • Learn what a "Special Needs" Patient is all about.
  • Discuss developmental and neurodivergent disorders.
  • Learn the importance of assessments and the Golden Rule of patient care.
  • Learn about the importance of "MID" and using the right materials.

How Old is Too Old to Have a Great Smile

In this lecture, Dr. Eric Shapira will discuss statistical facts about the geriatric population and the importance of good communication when working with the medically or mentally compromised older adults.  He will also discuss diagnosing and working with older patients.  The lecture will cover the aging process in general and the rationale for difficult restoring scenarios.

Upon course completion, the participant will:

Eric Shapira, DDS, MAGD, MA, MHA

Dr. Shapira is a Native of California, now living in Ramona, California. He attended Bethany College in West Virgina, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and Temple University School of Dentistry. He completed his residency in Dentistry and Medicine in Sardinia, Italy and a General Practice Residency and Internship at Mt Zion Hospital and Medical Center in San Francisco. He had a private practice in Half Moon Bay California for 35 years. He was Assistant Clinical Professor Arthur Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco from 1980-85. Dr Shapira developed courses in Geriatric and Special Needs Dentistry and taught both Geriatric Dentistry and Special Needs Dentistry for the California AGD for over 20 years.
