Course Description

Join us for an enlightening continuing education course tailored for all dental providers, focusing on the current ADA recommendations in non-invasive, non-surgical caries treatment. This course will cover the latest methods for treating caries without the drill, helping you develop an evidence-based approach to decision-making in tooth restoration. Additionally, the course will highlight the current state of dentistry in the state and the critical roles public health dental hygiene practitioners play in advancing oral health in Pennsylvania. Learn about the most up-to-date Medicaid coverages and fee schedules and how they can be effectively utilized in your practice.

Learner Outcomes

Upon course completion, the participant will:

  • Discuss and explore the latest advancements in non-invasive caries treatment methods.
  • Discuss and develop an evidence-based approach to decision-making in non-surgical caries restoration, considering factors such as lesion severity, patient preferences, and long-term outcomes.
  • Discuss and describe the roles a public health dental hygiene practitioner (PHDHP) can play in advancing oral health in PA.
  • Discuss and learn about new billing codes that influence public health.

Helen Hawkey

Helen Hawkey serves as the Executive Director for the PA Coalition for Oral Health, a statewide and community non-profit coalition. She previously worked as a research coordinator with the Centers for Oral Health Research in Appalachia on a childhood caries study through the University of Pittsburgh. Prior to 2013, Helen worked full-time as a clinician in a family dental practice for 12 years.  Helen's leadership roles include serving as a past Board Chair of the American Network of Oral Health Coalitions and as a current board member for the PA Rural Health Association, as well as on multiple dental and dental hygiene advisory boards in the state.
